Kindergarten Signing Day set for Jan. 15

The first ever Aberdeen Public Schools Kindergarten Signing Day will be held Monday, Jan. 15, for children heading to kindergarten in fall 2024. 

This free kindergarten registration event will take place from 1-7 p.m. at Simmons Middle School, 1300 S. Third St. 

Kindergarten Signing Day is free and open to all local families planning to send a child to kindergarten during the 2024-25 school year. Learn more here.

Officer Kirnan wins SRO of the Year Award

Aberdeen Central High School Resource Officer John Kirnan has been named SRO of the Year by the South Dakota Association of School Resource Officers. 

Kirnan received the award at a surprise all-school assembly at CHS on Wednesday, Dec. 20. Congratulations, Officer Kirnan!

The Aberdeen School Board recognized Central High School students who earned State Oral Interpretation Superior Results. 

The team, led by head coach Riley McNeil and assistant coach Ashley Hennings, also received a Team Excellence Award.

The Aberdeen Public Schools Foundation Golden Apple Award winners were announced Tuesday at the school district’s all-staff in-service event.

Tennessee school counselor shares inspiring story with Aberdeen educators

On Tuesday, Jan. 2, Aberdeen Public Schools educators heard from Tennessee school counselor Molly Hudgens, keynote speaker at the district’s All-Staff In-Service event. Hudgens, a Congressional Medal of Honor Citizens Honor recipient, was responsible for averting a shooting in her district in 2016. Read more about her story here.
