Later this year on July 4, 2026, the United States will celebrate its 250th birthday! 🎉 This marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, when the 13 colonies officially declared they wanted to become their own nation instead of being ruled by Great Britain. This milestone is a chance for us to celebrate our history, honor the people and events that shaped our country, and think about what we want America to become in the future.
This 250-year celebration is also called the Semiquincentennial (sem-ee-kwin-sen-TEN-ee-uhl) which is a fancy word that simply means “250th birthday”. |
