From The Principals' Desk

We can't believe the end of the school year is near! It’s hard to believe how fast this year has gone, but we still have so much to accomplish before we wrap things up. Just a reminder, the last day of school is Tuesday, May 19, and we will dismiss at 11:45am.

We want to take a moment to celebrate our Spring Concerts, what a success! It has been so fun to watch our music students grow throughout the year, and these performances were the perfect way to showcase their hard work and talent. A big shoutout to our music department for putting on such an outstanding show!

Teacher Appreciation Week: May 4-8

We are excited to celebrate our amazing staff during Teacher Appreciation Week! Our teachers do so much each day to support, encourage, and inspire our students. We encourage families to help their child find a simple way to say “thank you” during this week, it truly means a lot coming from them!

We’d also like to give a big thank you to 605 Scoops, who will be bringing their ice cream truck to school on Tuesday, May 5th so our staff can enjoy a sweet treat as part of the celebration!

Hoopla Day

Hoopla Day is back for the third year in a row! This fun Simmons tradition has quickly become a favorite. On Monday, May 18th, students will spend the day with their homerooms competing in a variety of activities against other homerooms. There will be plenty of friendly competition as teams battle it out to be crowned Hoopla Day Champions, along with a Spirit Award for the homeroom that brings the best energy, creativity, and positivity. It’s a great way for students to build connections, celebrate the year, and just have some fun together.

The Eras Tour of America

We’re excited to celebrate America’s 250th birthday with a special school-wide event on Friday, May 15th! Students will travel through 9 different eras of American history throughout the day, learning about key people, major events, and what life was like across the past 250 years.

Our students have already been hard at work researching and creating projects that are now displayed throughout the school, showcasing important moments in American history. We’ll wrap up the day with cupcakes to celebrate and encourage everyone to participate in our themed dress-up day: red, white, and blue, the more the better!

We’ve had an incredible year at Simmons Middle School, and we’re so proud of all our students have accomplished. As we finish strong, we encourage students to stay focused, continue giving their best effort, and end the year on a high note. As summer approaches, we hope our students take time to relax, recharge, and enjoy time with family and friends...but also continue to grow.

Thank you for your continued support this year, we couldn’t do it without you. Have a wonderful end to the school year and a fantastic summer ahead!

Show Choir Camp

The Aberdeen Central Show Choirs are excited to announce we are hosting our summer show choir camp on Wednesday, May 20th through Friday, May 22nd from 8:00am to noon each day at Central High School.  This is for students currently in 4th-8th grade.  Students will present a performance to family and friends at 11:00am on the last day of camp.  Cost is $30 which includes a shirt, snacks and music materials.  Any student interested may pick up a registration form from Mrs. Hansen in the vocal room.  Registration forms are due by May 8th.

Music Camps

Band, vocal, and orchestra students are strongly encouraged to look into attending a music camp this summer. Music camps are a great way to meet students from around the state who share their interests while improving their playing skills. Information about numerous camps is available from the directors as well as applications for scholarships that are available. Students who fill out the scholarship applications can get much of the cost of the camp covered!

Library

If your student has a fine for a lost library book, it must be paid by the end of the school year. Any unpaid fines will be added to Infinite Campus. Students may make partial payments or choose to read off their fine, earning a $1 credit for every minute they read in the library.

Sora: Students can continue reading over the summer by accessing eBooks through the Sora app on their personal devices or by visiting the SMS Library Homepage. Instructions for using Sora are available in Google Classroom under “SMS Library for Students. The class code to join is: zko4mnb

Does Your Child Have Medication In The Office?

Per the Aberdeen School District Policy, if your child has any medications in the Simmons Middle School Office, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to pick up all unused prescription medication on or before the last day of school (Tuesday, May 19).  Non-prescription (over the counter) medication can be sent home with students as long as written or verbal permission  has been given by a parent/guardian. If medication is not picked up before June 1st it will be disposed of properly.

Office staff will be working through June 1st,  so please call 605-725-7900 before stopping at the school, as summer work hours may vary.

Student Chromebooks

We will be collecting Chromebooks from all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at the end of the school year. This includes the Chromebook, charger, and bag.

We encourage parents and guardians to check their child’s Chromebook at home before we collect them in May. If you notice any issues, please have your student turn the device in to the school librarian before the end of the year so it can be sent in for repairs.

Please note that device insurance expires each year and will need to be renewed for the next school year in August.
